I find the problem of illegal immigration and the solution brought forth by Congress to be rather ironic since the problem is largely caused by Congress and the solution will only make things worse.
Congress has done two things which made illegal immigration a huge problem. First, they made it nearly impossible for good hard, working people to legally immigrate to the United States and second, they raised the cost of labor in the US by enacting a mininum wage law, thus creating a huge market for cheap illegal immigrant labor. The response has been to increase the borders controls and to try to make illegal immigration a felony. Of course the correct response would be to make it easier to become a citizen and integrate these hard working people into the US. Thus they can create more wealth and opportunity.
